Cros began with a stone cross encountered in the Irish landscape—a monumental form that stayed in memory long after the journey ended. Christianity reached Ireland by the early fifth century and, over the centuries, its symbols encountered Ireland’s existing traditions of geometry, pattern and extraordinary stonework. The cross became one of the most enduring expressions of this meeting of cultures. There was something profoundly moving in the simplicity of the form: the vertical meeting the horizontal, two axes held in equilibrium. In Cros, that geometry becomes a meeting point between earth and heaven, the temporal and the eternal, inheritance and reinvention. Reimagined in brass and stone, the cross is not a reproduction of an ancient object but a personal remembrance of one—a monumental form made intimate enough to carry on the body. Cros is also designed around the idea of adaptation. A single necklace transforms into three distinctly different styles: long and spare, shorter and talismanic, or layered with additional stone elements for a bolder expression. One object is asked to do more rather than making more objects.
